let‘s talk about the word ’worship‘ in qism

Many nontheist Friends/Quakers struggle with the term ‘worship’.
The 2018 Institutional Assessment on Systemic Racism within FGC

Task Force directed FGC to: “Develop a means to examine and change Quaker traditions, language and process developed by European ancestors to be inclusive of other cultures.

While nontheism isn’t a racial issue in itself, it does involve respect for diversity among Friends. ‘Worship’ is a traditional theistic term, and nontheist Friends are looking for something more inclusive.

Facilitated by tom kunesh, Robin Alpern, Andrea Henley Heyn, and John Hunter.

Both nontheists and theists are welcome with the understanding that this is not a discussion of the validity of either of these viewpoints. We are LGBTQ+ friendly, & we assume nontheism as our common meeting value. We treat each other respectfully, actively promote diversity, equality & inclusion, & expect the same of all participants. … If these sound good to you, you’re invited to join our discussion.
If these don’t sound good to you, please enjoy a pleasanter saturday on your own.
